|Job Profile||Belongs to 1986 batch of Indian Forest Service in Assam-Meghalaya
Served in Government of Meghalaya in different capacities in the Forest Department and held the position of PCCF till recently. Specialized in the field of Remote sensing and GIS applications in forest management in the last 20 years and has served two deputation tenures at Forest Survey of India (FSI) as Deputy Director and Joint Director. Steered nation-wide biennial forest cover mapping along with several National and International projects.
Principal investigator of the National Natural Resource Management System (NNRMS) project ‘Forest Type Mapping of India’. The project resulted in the first ever nation-wide mapping of forest types of India according to the Champion & Seth classification (1968) depicting 178 forest types on 1:50,000 scale also prepared Atlas showing state wise forest types of India.
Contributed in the two national communications (NATCOM) to UNFCCC on GHG Inventory from Forestry Sector and Forest Carbon Assessment of India’s Forests. Started several projects on diverse themes including mapping of mangroves, mapping of coral reefs, forest fire risk zonation and alerts in near real time, mapping and assessment of TOF.
Authored about 28 papers including few publications in the international journals. Also authored one book titled ‘Scientific Grouping of Forest Types of India’. Widely travelled to different countries for presenting papers and attending meetings.
Served as Professor in IGNFA, Dehradun for three years.
